Happy Bike to Work Day!

by RL Policar

To keep up with the festivities, I’ll try my best to keep posting “Bike to Work” related news through out the day.

In a soggy ceremony on the eve of the 11th annual Bike to Work Day, Michael Burns, head of the San Francisco Municipal Railway, and Bond Yee, executive director of the Department of Parking and Traffic cut a ribbon, unveiling a new bicycle rack outside of the main branch of the San Francisco Public Library.

“It’s a small project but very significant,” Yee said at the ceremony. “It’s like an infant learning to walk.”

The new racks, at the Grove Street entrance of the library, will increase the number of bicycle parking spaces from 20 to 38. The officials hope the new racks will encourage more bicycle riders in the city. The bicycle racks replaced two former parking spaces in order to keep the sidewalk free for people with disabilities, according to MUNI.
