Pedaling to work no sweat, riders say

That same endorphine-induced buzz from childhood bike rides is easier to get each morning before your work day than you might think. May is Bike to Work Month and is an ideal time to begin cycling to work with the month’s warming weather and longer days. But many potential commuters fear the logistics or complications or riding in traffic.

Most beginning riders have a “mindset similar to cars,” said Dennis Riedel, owner of Sports Den in Marshfield. However, riding the most direct route often means heavier traffic; instead, bike commuters should use less-traveled and smoother side streets, he added.
