Fremont acts on bicycle lane job

Council hires firm to do work amid complaints of loss of parking spaces

FREMONT -€  The City Council has hired a construction firm to undertake a project that will complete a continuous bicycle lane along bustling Fremont Boulevard, from Irvington’s Five Corners to Interstate 880 near the northern city limits.

To build the seven-mile bike lane, crews will have to create new parking areas elsewhere to compensate for the loss of dozens of spaces of street parking between Mowry Avenue and Central Avenue, and between Thornton Avenue and Beard Road.
