Biking: Masters is North Conway’s triathlete librarian

The upstairs office wall says it all.
Next to all those racing bibs like Crank the Kanc, Mooseman Triathlon, Wildcat Biathlon, Danskin, Joe Jones Pentathlon and Freedom Triathlon, is an ad about libraries. It reads: “She’s not your typical librarian.”
The same can be said for North Conway library director Andrea Masters. She loves bikes. She loves books. And she’s able to blend them together through work and competition.
Masters, 40, is a competitive triathlete. She’s also a reader, hiker, runner, skier and biker. Swimmer too. Not only that, the woman who might recommend the latest thriller is a board certified physician specializing in internal medicine with a Ph.D. in clinical pharmacology.
So how does a doctor from Germany come to be North Conway’s library director?
She got burnt out from 80-hour work weeks and decided to come to America in 1999, landing a job at a Cape Cod bike shop.
“I wanted to do something with either bikes or books,” she said.
