Why do so many cyclists have to be leftist pamphlet toting whiners?
“Leave stickers on lampposts and flyers in cafes, and spread the word. Too lazy to get out there? It doesn’t have to be such a chore. Just make sure to pack a few stickers/flyers into your bag, and when you’re out on the street, just leave one behind now and again. It’s no big deal, plus it’s fun.”
And it’s illegal. And looks like trash.
How about just quit the whining, and lead by example? Ride your bike because you love to, and maybe other people will as well. But don’t put that crap up in my town!
Leaving a flyer at a cafe or tacking/taping one up on a lampost etc… is not illegal and is just an extension of freedom of speech.
I understand that you might have objections to people flyering based upon your personal aesthetics and/or opinions… but please don’t get all fascist on us, I definitely don’t need that crap in my town!
I’m sort of with Gino and sort of with Thomas on this one. I’m all for freedom of speech, and flyering in places that are already established as flyer spots is great. In fact, in a weird modern art sort of way, it’s awesome.
However, we all should lead by example, and be a bit more subtle about it and not so tacky. Maybe more people would join us if we didn’t act like a “cause” and were just instead a “way of life” that’s not too different from their current way of life, only more healthy for everyone?
And maybe it would also be more healthy for everyone if everyone stopped labelling everyone else and just treated everyone like friend?
I agree with all of you. But I have to say, the folks at Cicle make some cool looking logos. I wonder if they have them in a T-shirt version….hmmm
I’m all for freedom of speech as well, but it has to be done wisely if it is to work.
Cyclists will never gain respect by acting like a bunch of whiny socialist politicos though. We’re lucky enough to live in a country where riding bicycles *is* a choice.
When you go to the Cicle site, the first sentence is “Subvert car culture by invading the public space with an alternative message” … followed by several
Come on man, this is riding bicycles, not overthrowing some communist or socialist government.
