commuting by bike is great...
I live it
I love it

lets not forget that Citgo offered to sell oil to the poor of this country for significantly less than the market rate

while Exxon is boasting about record earnings...

I am not that smart
I am not that political
so I will say no more

You might want to go to Google and do a search on chavez venezuela - there's more to this story than meets the eye. I'm not an investigative journalist, but there's all sorts of oddities like a botched coup allegedly funded by the US after Chavez was elected (he's not, as stated in the post, a dictator - he was democratically elected). I've also seen commentary about this show where Chavez said he would refuse to sell oil to anyone except poor people (though I'm not sure how Citgo would manage that).

An interesting report from Richard Stallman is at http://www.freesoftwaremagazine.com/free_issues/issue_02/rms_blog_2_short/ describing how Venezuela is going open source because the US government allegedly leaned on SAIC to shut down the computers during the coup. Miguel de Icaza has also posted a lot of information on Chavez on his blog.

I don't know the full truth, but relying on a demagogic email to decide who to boycott in a somewhat kneejerk reaction is perhaps not the best way to go. Changing providers from Citgo to (say) Exxon still consumes oil, after all, and possibly more overall if Exxon has to ship oil from Saudia Arabia where Citgo is shipping a shorter distance from South America.

Of course, my words mean relatively little anyway, since (a) I'm not a US resident, and (b) I don't buy gas anyway, let alone from Citgo.

Without really wanting to get into it, Chavez was elected to his position in a free and fair democratic election. While he puts on airs as a dictator, and it's anyone's guess if he'd leave if he were voted out, he got that position in a free and fair internationally observered election. (Btw, with fewer irregularities than Bush v. Gore.)

Chavez also was the one who, through Citgo, did a deal to provide affordable home heating oil to people who can't afford the prices being charged by Bush and Cheney's energy pals.
BBC
Globe

Dismissing someone by lableing him a "dictator" with the aim of dismissing him without really examining what's going on is the wrong thing to do. Does he hate the US? You bet. Does he have good reason? You bet.
