Sometimes.
It depends on line of site mostly. If I can see far enough in both directions down the street I’m crossing to know it’s safe sure, I’ll ride right through.
4-way stops – ride right through
If I can’t see to check for traffic I’ll slow down or go slow enough to check.
Yes, I stop. I always do.
I don’t worry about cars much but do worry about others on bike.
Just today on the way to work, yes, I work on Satureday, and there are lots of weekend cyclists, two 20 something girls on bike didn’t stop @STOP. They didn’t see me at all. If I didn’t stop one of us would have been @$#%^&!!!
My returen trip from work is after midnight and obviously I can spot cars easy. But others on bike, I can’t see them well. Yes there are lots of bike that time of the day and often they are without lights.
I turn my head so that I can hear a car coming and if I don’t hear an engine rumbling my way I go on through. At night and when it’s raining it’s even easier to see headlights and hear approaching tires. If a police officer in the crime riddled city of Philadelphia ever tried to ticket me for this offense, I’d probably fall off my bike laughing at them.
I stopped for a stop sign once and the fool in the pickup truck coming up behind me stopped right on top of me. I reached up and grabbed the grill and started hollering. He backed up and sat looking stupid at me through his dirty windshield. If it weren’t for the traffic on the busy cross street he probably would’ve done a touch and go without stopping and I wouldn’t be writing this.
Thank goodness you’re still here with us Bill. This shows us that while on a bike, we constantly have to be on the guard and look all around, even behind us. Thanks for sharing your experience with us.
I never stop at the stop signs… after all, we can stop pretty much on a dime, but yesterday, a cop on his gas guzzling BMW bike in Davis, CA, gave me a ticket for not stopping completely at a stop sign… I saw him, and just because of that, I stopped but was told you need to put both feet on the ground or ticket… shouldn’t they be catching terrorists or something?
I’ll admit it. Never.
Only if I see or hear a cop near by.
Never!
I did get a ticket when I was 14 for not stopping at a 4 way stop sign.

Ha. No.
No Cop, no Stop!

I always thought for cyclists Stop signs were just a suggestion…..
It’s funny how the majority of us say that we don’t stop. But RL is the only one who admits on getting a ticket for it.
