Bike to Work, Bike for Work

by Nick

I started a new job last week at a photo equipment rental service (which is why I’ve been so scarce). In this new job, I’ve had a couple opportunities to improve workflow with my bicycle. Here’s one:

Occasionally, we need to rent vans from a van rental service 30 blocks north of us. Normally, this means having our driver take an employee up to the rental service and drop them off, letting them drive the van back to work. Since my bike is at work anyway, I recommended its use in this case, having an employee bike to the rental service, throw the bike in the van, and drive back down, thus using up only one person’s time instead of two. The next time, I did it myself.

It’s a small step, but I hope it encourages more people to think about the bike as a tool, and not just a toy.

  1. You should convince your work to purchase bikes for use. They could probably write that off on the tax returns.

    Perfect tool would be Xtracycles!

    That’s actually the plan, Randy.

  4. Awesome. Congrats on the new job!
