I'm concerned about the wear on my knees. I've been riding my Trikke to and from work (four miles round trip) three to four days a week. I'm hooked on riding it! Only I've heard the Trikke is hard on the knees, and my knees are sore several days after I ride it. My knees otherwise do not bother me. Is there a special technique to carving our balancing? (Aside from my knee pain, the Trikke is one of the best purchases I've ever made in my 50 years.)

For the last month, I've been riding a Trikke T12 about 20 miles into work, roughly three times a week. The course is about 10 miles of sidewalk (some of it pretty rough) and 10 miles of bike path. The commute is slow: 2 - 2.5 hours, depending on weather. This compares favorably, however, with the time it usually takes me to commute one way (1 hour) and work out at the gym (1.5 hours). I do not Trikke to and from work: I fold and carry it on the train ride home.

The durability of the Trikke is a big advantage. I ride sidewalks out of necessity: street riding is too risky. The Trikke handles sidewalks well. It's even quite fun: a continuous slalom, avoiding big cracks, sign posts, etc. There are few walkers or bikes on my route, but when I approach them, I go slowly so as not to drive them off the sidewalk.

The workout is good. I used to bike into work (many years ago). I believe I getter a better workout on the Trikke. The Trike also seems safer. I've not fallen much, but when I do, my lower center of gravity is a real win. I've never hurt myself and usually end up laughing.

Falls on the Trikke can be avoided entirely by: 1) replacing front tire before center tread wears down, 2) not "cranking" too hard with front wheel near edge of sidewalk (you can catch an edge and cause a spill), 3) not "cranking" on slippery surfaces, like wet docks along riverside bike paths.

Maintenance of Trikke has been fun. Parts are available at trikke.com, as well as trikketampa.com. Anyone who has worked on a bicycle will find Trikke maintenance fun and easy.

Deniz,
You can easily get parts. You can order directly from TrikkeTech or for a number of dealers around the country. You can get tons of info at Trikketalk.com

So, how do you do the maintenance on this thing. What happens if for example you break one of the wheels? Do they sell the parts as well?

I commute 12 miles one way on the Trikke T8C Air tires with a bunch of hills and would take the Trikke over my mountain bike any day. The Trikke is so much fun and addicting I cannot believe more aren't on it. It's addicting, addicting, addicting!!!! If you've ever skiied or snowboarded, you know how addicting that could be...well the Trikke gives that same feeling! I'm not athletic by any means, but since I've been riding the Trikke I've gained so much endurance and I've definitely toned up. This is a great machine and I highly recommend it to anyone that wants a fun challenge.

Sorry, this is a weird site maintence report thing. When I posted that above, a post to Nick from someone named Tao about a route appeared. I was thinking wow, someone posted at the same time as I. Went back to the main page and back to this comment and it disappeared.

It's 7:20 in the morning for me and I haven't been drinking. Just waiting to see if the rain will slow down enough for the morning ride in. Doesn't look good. Anyways, I'm using Firefox and there was a strange floating post. Dam, thunder! I guess no ride today.
