ANAHEIM

Officers identified a bicyclist who died in a crash Tuesday as Everett Dawkins, 32, of Anaheim, Sgt. Rick Martinez said Wednesday.

Dawkins died Tuesday afternoon after a car struck him near Katella Avenue and Euclid Street, Martinez said.

At about 5 p.m. a woman driving west on Katella hit Dawkins as he was riding his bicycle north on Euclid, Martinez said. He was thrown from his bike and hit a truck in the area.

Paramedics took Dawkins to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana where he died of his injuries, Martinez said. The woman was taken to the same hospital for minor to moderate injuries.

Man it’s always sad to hear bicyclist die by car. His route isn’t that far from where I ride to and from work.

  1. Melissa says:

Everett Dawkins was my husband that I loved ever so dearly. He loved life and riding a bike. He would ride all over Orange County. A women under the influence killed him by running a red light while Everett was crossing the crosswalk on his bicycle. Please everyone who rides, be very careful and be aware, people just do not have respect for people whom arent in a vehicle. Every day when I see a bike rider, I pray that God keep them safe.

    Much love,

    Melissa Dawkins

  2. Thanks for finding this piece.

I am preparing to do a story about the high number of car/cyclist accidents in the OC this year, and this helps.

    And my condolences to Melissa.
