Ken: Bullhorn bars are great, but I wouldn't recommend an off the shelf model - they are usually too big and extend too far forward. The best way to get a good, cheap pair of bullhorns is to take an old pair of drops that fit your hands well, turn them upside down and cut off what you don't need. There aren't enough bullhorns on the market to get a proper fit, but there are more than enough drops out there.

If you're here for the century next year, get in touch.

Congratulations. I've been riding a fixed gear bike in San Francisco for about a year. It's keeping me in great shape. Have been dying to try a century on it. You've inspired me, so thanks for that.

I also LOVE the look of your bike. Just saw the IRO brand for the first time today. I'm planning on building one up pretty much the way you have it. The bars seem to make perfect sense for the way I ride. (I need something substantial to grab on to on some of our hills)

I'm an ex NY-er and would LOVE to do the NY Century next year. Maybe I'll see you there.

Take care,

ken

Great stuff! Sounds like you, and Kalim had a great time riding through the New York City area.
I am originally from New Jersey, and I would ride a bike everywhere I went while everyone I knew used a car. The great thing is that I could see things that car drivers could never see.
I am inspired so much that I am going to start riding to work on my road bicycle, a mult - speed steed. I am a student teacher, and riding to school is about 25 miles. Since student teaching is a long, daily affair I don't get much time to ride when I get home, so I think commuting to work on a bike is a good idea.
Funny thing, my wife suggested that I ride my bike to work. And she gets annoyed when I buy something new for my bike. I new reside in Texas, and Century rides take place here, but a Century ride in NYC sounds like alot of fun.
Keep on ridin'.

Hey, I rode with you guys for a while. I had the Yellow on Black Lemond Buenos Aires Road bike, Mickey mouse jersey and a de-rosa bib on, with a yellow and black helmet. I think i saw you at the rest stop near the water also.

Great ride guys!

Yeah, and the best part is that you don't have to schedule time to train. Sometimes, on a Sunday night, I'll get antsy if I haven't ridden all day, but then I remember that I have tomorrow morning's ride to look forward to.
