Get Felt Up..October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month!

by Priscilla-Bike Princess

During the month of October, we proudly celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness in honor of the millions of courageous women who have fought against this disease, and in memory of those who lost the battle but will never be forgotten.

This year in America, more than 211,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer and 43,300 die. One woman in eight either has or will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. In addition, 1,600 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer and 400 will die this year. If detected early, the five-year survival rate exceeds 95%. Mammograms are among the best early detection methods, yet 13 million U.S. women 40 years of age or older have never had a mammogram.

We all have a mother or sister or wife or daughter in our lives. Lets take this time to encourage our loved ones to have our check ups. Men are not exempt either. Lets do our part to fight this disease. There are many incredible organizations out there and many ways to contribute; Donations, riding your bikes for prevention, volunteering, participating in public policy advocacy. Even pink purchases. I was pleasantly suprised to see Terry Bicycles doing there part to raise awareness.

Terry is again raising money and support for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Fund with the funds from sales of Donna’s Butterfly. Their goal this year is to triple what they raised last year in honor of their dear friend and co-worker, Donna Bogdanski.

Butterfly

Terry recently sent me their Donna’s Butterfly. Not only is this a beautiful saddle, but funds are donated toward a good foundation and it brings awareness to those around you as you are riding. And believe me you get noticed with this pink saddle!

Here’s the saddle installed on my Giant Cypress from BikeTown.

I will do a more formal review later but I thought it was appropriate to mention their support of Breast Cancer Awareness. Great job Terry Bicycles!

We’d love to hear how you commuters have contributed to this cause!
