I have the paratrooper and have ridden it many many miles. Great bike but pedal came out and stripped the crank arm on a trail. Aluminum crank arm = use locktite.

I've got one. Love it, definitely responds well on the trail. The only problem I have with it is that mine is yellow, but I won it cheap in a raffle so I'm not gonna complain too much. Definitely a great bike though. Performs well and holds up to Texas' tough trails in the dry or wet heat. The bottom bracket doesn't collect a lot of dirt either.

Good review !

But i'll pass on it thanks .. I tried one and its ok as a mountain bike but a hassle and heavy to move it about, because you need both hands - one for the wheel and one for the rest of it. Its not much easier than taking wheels off my mountain bike. There are other excellent folding bikes which are better for commuting. I guess for a hummer guy who has everything, or the army who are short of space in transporters it is perfect, but that's not me.

I've had the Montague Paratrooper for a month now, and I really enjoy riding it. The only problems I've encountered were 1. I'm 6'1, and the handle bar stem was WAY too low. In fact, you cannot raise it! Therefore, you have to buy a longer stem (around $25). I had it installed at my bike store because of the odd design of the Paratrooper's stem. 2. You can't easily put a rack on it. You have to get one of the clap on rear bike racks. If you don't want the folding capability, then a permanent rack may be install after you purchase an adapter, since there are no screws for a rear rack.

HI, you're right its a real awesome bike, I have the red limited edition ( first batch with disc brakes produced by Montague but only drawback is the cheap triple crank that came with it, Question is do you know if its a square bottoom bracket & what size ? Appreciate your response

I'm 5'7 and 175 lbs, and I ordered the Montague Paratrooper. This frame fits me just perfect. If you're over 5'9 I'd recommend the 20" version. I chose the Paratrooper over other models simply because I like the rugged hardcore look of military green. The bike will get dirty, hence no need for flashy colors. Since owning it I've upgraded some of the stock components such as replacing the front RST shocks with Rock Shox, added an ultra lightweight and more streamlined saddle, shimano M520 pedals, WTB wheels, etc. In addition, I plan to lighten up the bike a little more by adding carbon fiber components where I can, and completely overhaul the stock drive train, which has given me a little trouble recently. A good tune up will help, but a better drive train will ultimately be the best solution. As a previous commentor stated, I also plan to add rear disc brakes and build another wheelset for road use. If Montague offered, I'd highly recommend buying just the frame, and build it up from scratch using better components. This is just as good as any fixed frame hardtail out there that I've ridden, and the folding feature of this bike takes away absolutely nothing. It's impossible for this bike to fold on you during a hard ride. This bike is solid. This bike is strong. This bike is light. This bike just rocks. With better stock components, this bike would be a masterpiece (and the price would surely reflect that!).
