kcgreenman, look up The Bicycle Shack. They sell used bicycles, and I'm told the prices are very reasonable for what you get.

Also, try looking up a brand-new bike shop called Family Bicycles, in Brookside. I don't know if they sell used, but they specialize in getting people commuting and taking those short trips that would be better out of a car.

There is Acme Bicycles, East of 18th and Oak downtown. They've got all the used bicycles you could ever need, and a funky vibe, too.

Finally, there's Volker Bicycles (also brand-new) on 39th Street. Urban and track bikes, I'm told.

Good luck!

Noah, where in KC did you buy a used bike for $100? I like you can't afford $400 but could fork over $100 or so. Any help you can give would be great.

Awesome.
I'm from Kansas City (actually Overland Park) and it's refreshing to see people actually do commute on bicycles in KC. I ride my bike through 135th and Metcalf, it can get kind of hairy. And I feel like a bit of an alien among SUV's. But it's good exercise and fun.

You rock, Noah! You are also a perfect example of the most important element of a bike commuter: determination. The bike was not the only one that took everything your winter could dish out, and yet I didn't see one complaint or excuse about the weather in your post. Keep it up!
