Automatic turn signals and brakes

by Richard Masoner

Sue in Chambana, Illinois wants more lightning and turn signals for her bike. This cyclist jacket idea with a brake light on the back and turn signals in the arms might do the trick. See the video below to see this jacket in action.

I think that’s great. One wonders how it will hold up to laundering, but it’s a good idea.

I think I will wait for some long term reviews, especially at that price.

Back when I was a kid (20 yrs ago) I had a set of seat-post-mounted, battery-powered turn signals, anyone know where to get them now?

Interesting idea, but I think the implementation needs some work. The use of color splotches doesn’t to me communicate the cyclist’ intent very well. I think the jacket achieves improved visibility well (except that it appears to be a dark color), but may not work effectively as a signaling device due to using non-standard symbols. Stick with what people know and already understand like arrows, red octagons, green circles. Faster flashing too.
