Jeff,
Yes, rain is the hardest to get motivated for. The right gear helps and I'll be covering what I have been using recently and what works for me.

Mark,
Good job on getting out in 17 below, I would not have made it out at that point. For me the worst part about numb hands and feet are taking a warm shower and getting the tingling feeling as they warm up.

You can't keep a little rain from stopping you from riding to work. It's 17 degrees (F) below zero here in Toronto but that didn't keep me off my bike. Of course, my hands, feet and face were numb by the time I got to work. :)

My brother lives near Ballard...just up the street from the Fremont Troll. I was impressed at all the bicycle commuters the last time I was visiting. There are some serious hill climbs around Seattle!

Good for you for getting out in the rain. I think it's the hardest element to ride in. We get very little rain in Carson City. Seems like it's either sunny or it's snowing. I don't have rain gear besides a jacket, so I'm usually not prepared for the sogginess of rain!

I am riding from Ballard to Lynnwood. It works out to be just more than 11 miles each way.
