Boulder commuter of the year

by Richard Masoner

Attention Boulder, Colorado bicycle commuters:

GO Boulder/city of Boulder is in search of nominees for its 12th Annual Commuter of the Year Contest. Three people who have chosen to leave their cars behind and commute by bike, bus or some combination of biking, walking and using transit will be honored as the 2008 “Commuters of the Year.” The deadline for residents to nominate themselves or someone they know is Friday, March 21. Winners will be notified by Friday, March 28.

Nominees can either live or work in Boulder and can be employees, residents or students of any age. The three categories for which nominations will be accepted include:

  • Bike Commuter of the Year
  • Transit Commuter of the Year
  • All Around Commuter of the Year

Winners will be featured on GO Boulder’s official Walk and Bike Month Web page and will serve as “Commuter of the Year” spokespeople. To qualify, the nominees should have a story that will motivate others to consider their transportation choices.

“Commuters of the year are everyday people who inspire others to get around in ways that are healthier for themselves and for the community,” said Marni Ratzel, GO Boulder bicycle and pedestrian planner. “Each winner’s story is inspirational and encourages others to consider their commute options and to try something new.”

To make a nomination, visit GOBoulder.net and complete the online form.

Another contest!

The city of Boulder’s Office of Environmental Affair’s (OEA) ClimateSmart team seeks stories from Boulder County residents and businesses who have taken action to reduce their carbon footprint. Stories should relate to energy or transportation carbon reduction efforts, and may be selected for a Web site case study and/or local print and online publicity. All entries are eligible for prizes. Visit the news page at BeClimateSmart.com. The deadline is Friday, March 21. ClimateSmart programs promote energy efficiency, alternative transportation options and renewable energy to households and businesses throughout Boulder County.
