Civia Cycles 2009 : New Model

by Bike Shop Girl

Civia Cycles is releasing snippets of a new bike that is going to be released at Interbike ’09.  The bike is geared for shorter distance commutes with the ability to carry more due to front and rear racks coming stock on the bikes.  A gentler geometry than what is found on the Hyland.  An internally geared rear hub will be offered in either 3 or 9 speed.  They hope to have these in dealers hands by May of ’09.

Price : Between $1300 – 1700
Wheel Base: 26″
Frame Geometry: Relaxed
Frame Material: Steel
Fenders: Yes
Rack: Rear and Front
Brakes: Disc
Hubs: Internal Gear

Keep your eye on Commute By Bike during Interbike this year for photos and better spec information.

How about some pictures? That Hyland they sell sure looks nice. I have read some complaints about the 8 speed Alfina internal hub, though. In contrast to the normal 8 speed hub, the Alfina has to be shifted through each gear just like a derailer, so no switching from 9th gear straight to first gear. Is my source (A to B magazne) wrong on this?

    Stuart,

Unfortunately they did not send photos along with the information. At Interbike we will have photos of all the Civia models.

As for the Alfina, I don’t know enough about it or first hand experience to speak. Can anyone else chime in?

You pipped Bike Hugger on the coverage! We’re watching for it as well — bullets in a press release, not so sexy as spy photos.
