This is so NOT the way to clean a chain!

You need <a HREF="http://sheldonbrown.com/chainclean.html" rel="nofollow">The ShelBroCo Bicycle Chain Cleaning System</a>

Far more effective ;-)

Try using a shallow container to degrease the chain and other parts. Usually some agitation is in order to get the grease out of the small spaces in the chain, combined with a soak. The degreaser can also be diluted with water, about 1:1 max.

Here's another recent review that illustrates well how to use the degreaser on a headset : http://prollyisnotprobably.com/2009/10/review_el_duke_degreaser.php

Thanks for the review!

One low tech degreaser I use is to recyle the first wash from the washing machine. Is is still very sudsy. I would use a paint brush and go thru the bike. It works for bikes that are not too neglected.

For really soiled chains , cassette, I use diesel. I have a jar and I put everything inside and shake it. Don't throw the diesel. Let the gunk settle for a few days, transfer the clean diesel on the top portion and reuse next time.

In the next week you'll see a full review of how the degreaser works for now it was just an intro to what the prodcut is.

This review isn't really doing it for me. You never really get to how well it works, or how well it works as compared to the other two cleaner/degreasers you mention.

A plastic gallon milk jug with a top quarter cut away works great for chains.
