I've posted a review and video of the Electric Ute on my blog at http://mycargobike.net/2010/06/15/first-look-at-the-kona-electric-ute. The combination of cargo bike and electric motor is compelling, especially in my very hilly neighborhood. My bike is a Rans Hammer Truck with a BionX motor, but that combination is a bit pricey for many people. The Electric Ute is a very interesting bike at an attractive price.

I wouldn't know how to work on it, I'm used to the old fashioned leg powered kind.

I think an electric assist is a good idea on a cargo bike but for regular riding I just don't see it. When I get up that hill it's nice to be able to say I did all the work.

But to each his own. As a technological thing, I think they are cool and interesting, even if it gets us further away from what a bike is supposed to be and closer to motor scooters...

I presently drive a wonderful e-bike, the Giant Twist Freedom DX. It has 2 batteries and this will be my 2nd summer using it. It's about to turn over 1,900mi, so I'm all for the e-bike craze. I'm an older gentleman, and use it to commute every day. That being said, the UTE would be a wonderful e-bike, with it's carrying capacity. Would like to see an option for 2 batteries, to take you farther, my Giant can easily do 60 mi on my 2 batteries. On a UTE grocery shopping would be a breeze.
My 2 cents.

Lately I've considered getting a electric assist for longer trips.
I have taken up ice skating and the closest rinks are 10 to 15 miles.. An electric assist would allow me to be warmed up but not tired to skate for a few hours... But If I do, I'll probobly do a big dummy with a stokemonkey.

All in all, anything to get America out of the un-healthy metal boxes!

I see the spam filter isn't up yet! Any way I like to go barefoot better. : /
