I'm conflicted on this one. ALL of my vehicles, motorized or not, have pet names. My Nissan pickup is Pore Ol' Truck, the Honda CR-V is The Redster, and my bikes are Bluetiful, The Roadley, Hardiboi and Dutchgrl. When you think about it, your safety --- your very life --- is riding on the wheels of your vehicle. I don't known about others, but a superstitious part of me compels me to anthropomorphize it for the sake of karma.

I enjoyed the vintage tricycle shots. I have a very similar one of my dad in front of his house when he was of a similar age. In another shot taken around the same time, he has Spaniel puppy in a basket on the front. Pretty cute.

I agree with your comments about quality. It's hard to see a child placing lasting value on bicycles painted in silly color and covered with cheesy lightening bolts, glitter and Barbie stickers. Even from the quality manufacturers, childrens bikes often look like they are meant to last a single season. So little valued are they that I see them littering the sidewalks and urban trail in my neigborhood all the time, unattended by children or parents. Sometimes they sit there for days. I'd be heartbroken if I lost any of my bikes and would never think of leaving it unsecured. Still won't name them, though.

My Xtracycle was christened by my 5 yo Max-boy as "The Blob".
It's a mixture of lime-green & black. And as I'm on the overweight side myself, the name fits.
"Are we taking The Blob to kinder Dad?"

The Max-boy likes to ride. It works. We ride every day.

He doesn't have a name for his bike. Yet.

Cheers

Fantastic blog! I just got into cycling three years ago and it has changed my life! I love it and I try to bike everywhere I can. My wife and I are expecting our first child(which we found out is a boy) and I am already thinking of ways to get my son into this amazing lifestyle.

Thanks again!
Quick question do have any websites that do a good job on how to build basic bikes.. I have 1984 Fuji and i'm wanting to turn it into a single speed/commuter any thoughts
any would be great!

That is an awesome tricycle, down to the sprung saddle. It puts the Big Wheels of my youth to shame.

I have a Surly Big Dummy custom painted "smurf blue" by the good folks at Xtracycle. Since my car's name is (Suba)Rufus, we decided to call the Big Dummy "Bluefus". Works for me and the kids who ride on the back!
