DAY 2, NY Resolution: Day 1 ended with an impromptu dinner date with the wife at our favorite sushi restaurant. Commuting to the restaurant then home in the dark with a slight breeze, psychologically I felt as if this Winter's night was below freezing when in fact it was still 40+ degrees. Lesson learned: just because it is Winter, it isn't cold...get out there and enjoy your life.

...Day 2... resolution still going strong...bike commute to work in the middle of Winter which is now unseasonably warm.

Considering the sacrilege I plan on committing with that Schwinn (this is not a restoration project), it's not very far fetched to think that I would put some S&S couplers on the frame.

New Year's Resolution, Day 1 of Winter Bike Commute: It was 20 degrees with the sun breaking the horizon and I dressed in long underwear, wool socks, canvas pants, a long sleaved fleece, ski jacket, gloves and hat. Felt the cold through the canvas pants but nice and toasty everywhere else -- maybe, too warm...clothing adjustments required.

Sense of freedom and control over one's life slowly being restored with the bike commute...I am NOT a drone!

Michael LaPorte, I love your resolution! Agree that everyone needs to take responsibility to make safe conditions for all of us - drivers, cyclists, walkers, runners, dogs, etc.
I resolve to ride safely and legally - EVERY TIME!

Great stories and resolutions to inspire me to keep on cycling.

Ted J: I ride on my days off just to enjoy the fresh air with no stress on a schedule. I too have a golden oldie Schwinn Traveler 1984 vintage that will hopefully be reconditioned this year for purely pleasure cycling.

BluesCat: Just keep throwing those cycling stories out there. Your stories come from experience and the heart.

Melanie: If I were your hubby, I would give you an unlimited bike shop account. You look MARVELOUS! I commute in the dark all of the time and it can sometimes be easier because the traffic is lighter.

Stacey: You look MARVELOUS too! I love the smile. I hope you keep that smile for years to come. I have enjoyed your comments.

Karen: Of course, you look MARVELOUS too (have I left anyone out?). I do hesitate in encouraging fashion outfits on cyclist since I would be considered a very rough-neck slob if you saw me in the morning. I look like the fashion accident from hell. Steel-toed insulated high top leather boots with rubber bands around my Levi jeans, blue nylon windbreaker on top of a black aged Polartech jacket with a bulging backpack. Insulated work gloves with 180Degrees earmuffs or a full wind sock on the head which would qualify me for any terrorist list except for the fact that I am riding in 19 Degree F temperatures on a bike at 5:30am in the dark. That combined with my older helmet would put me on the ten worst dressed cyclist list for sure (please refer to my comments where I state I am trying to save as much money as possible by bike commuting, do not hate me for making the cycling world look bad).

Gregg: I am with you as I try to lose additional weight and keep the weight loss from creeping back to my frame.

Happy New Year Everyone.

Blame cagers less. Take more personal responsibility. Approach urban commuting like a game, the goal to to arrive at work alive.
