I am looking for a cape to wear. I have a short commute, but the Midwest rain is amazing (I am a new transplant). I would like to be able to wear my helmet under the hood. Is tha possible with the Cleverhood?

Ha! I actually just went through this with my own Cleverhood cape. I got it in early April in preparation for April showers... but it really didn't rain until yesterday. Finally! Rain!

For six years I have used the Carradice Pro Route Cape. I also have the leg spats and helmet cover, too.

I love the Carradice rain cape and recommend it.

It has a strap that can wrap around the hand or better over the brake lever. With the strap over brake lever, holding the cape, I can signal.

There is a waist strap to help keep wind from filling the cape.

The leg spats keeps shoes and pants dry. Although on long trips in wind some wetness will happen.

The helmet cover is nice, but I prefer a wide rimed rain hat. I like the cape without a hood as it is easier to look back. And the wide rimed hat keeps rain out of my eyes better.

At the neck it is Velcro, making it easy to open for more air or close as I turn in to the wind.

My Dutch city bike has gallon milk jugs cut and placed over the grips, brake levers and shifter. It really helps keeping hands (or gloves) dry and warmer. With the rain cape straps hooked to the brake levers, after I signal I slid my hand under the cape very easily.

Yesterdays ride to the grocery was in medium rain and ~38F. Most of the ride I chose to ride at ~8 mph, it was such a nice ride. A lot of motorists slowed as the passed me... Maybe they liked the tune I was singing.
When I arrived at the grocery and then back home, I was nice and dry after a 4 mile round trip.

I ordered it from Carradice in England as I couldn't find it in stock in the US. I don't remember what I paid for it.. After 6 years it doesn't matter.

I need to move to were it rains more often....

I've been thinking about getting something like this, but I'm leaning more towards the Oxford cape from Brooks. It's about $100 more, but it has more face protection. If your face is getting wet, the water is gonna run down your neck and soak your shirt. So I guess I'm just left with the choice of the Oxford cape or go with a full Veltop.
