Novara (REI) Fusion
2008
Description
My friend and I saw a couple of these at REI at lunch today. Very easy commuter bike, dialed in with a nice rear rack, double headlight, fenders, kickstand, 700c wheels, reflective sidewall tires, and a tail light. It was tagged $749 and right now they have a 20% off, so it could be ridden out for $600. Seems like a good deal for the package. My only complaint is it comes in lime green and no other color.

Dirt Rag did a review a few issues ago. They seemed to like it. It has all the accessories that a newbie commuter would have to buy. Those by themselves are probably worth $400ish.

I've been commuting on one of these for about 2 years now. I can't say enough good things about it; supple ride, ability to shift while stopped, powered lights, and only one flat in 1,400 miles of riding! Now if they could just do it in steel...

I came really close to buying it last year. My wife has the hub on a Trek cruiser and the hub is great. But on the test ride the bike seemed heavy. I know it's a commuter-- and maybe the bike was undersized for me-- but I backed out as the last minute. I'm very happy commuting on my touring bike now...

I picked up mine this morning from REI. I'm planning to use it for a 22-mile daily commute. As neatmike said, it had everything that a complete newbie commuter (like me) wanted in a package. That backed by REI's bulletproof return policy is what sold me on the bike.
