Rivendell Atlantis

2008

Description

The Atlantis is in and of itself a frame carrying with it the heritage of the Bridgestone XO-1 touring bicycle.  Rivendells are all built-to-order, so you get to choose the components and accessories.  This bike isn't at home unless it's got fenders and loaded racks on it.  The smaller frames have 26" wheels, the larger ones are for 700C wheels.  All models have oodles of clearance for large tires and fenders.

Read and believe the advice on the Rivendell site about sizing these frames - I ignored it and wish I hadn't. My frame is about 2cm too small for me and my back and wrists are not entirely happy. Otherwise, it's been a fantastic bike.

The Rivendells are great for us tall folks as they make these in big sizes--mine's a 68cm, and they make another model (the A. Homer Hilsen, they do insist on daft model names) up to 72cm with distinctive double top-tubes.

It's the smoothest most comfortable bike I've ever owned. Steel is real -- I've owned several aluminum bikes, but I'll never leave good old steel again. Put some fat slick tires on it (mine are Schwalbe Big Apples) and you have a full suspension ride without all the complexity and maintenance of shocks.
