I have never tried a fixed gear bike. Frankly they scare me, but never say never. I love this bikes name "Steamroller", very cool.

Schwinn Schwinn Voyageur Sport
I hope it is not too costly...looks inexpensive. Probably a good bargain. Could be confortable for short commutes. Needs fenders added and a rack and you're all set.

Raleigh One Way
I like the bike, looks practical but needs and chain-guard. I suppose it would be good on a mostly flat area but in the hills you had better have monster legs...if you don't, you soon will.

Electra Amsterdam Classic 3
I love this classic style! I know, I'm a bike-geek. I want an eight speed because I live in a hilly area. What a practical machine! Looks great in green with the tan seat and handlebar grips too! I bet this would be faster to ride than my old 1980's Norco Pinnacle converted to a commuter.
