I've looked all over the internet and either I'm having an extremely hard time finding it, or it can't be found. I was wondering if you could help me locate a place where I would be able to get plans for different types of tow-behind bicycle cargo trailers and parts?
Over the years, we have passed by quite a few different plans for DIY bike cargo trailers. In replying, I'll send you to some of the resources for these plans. I also would like for this post to become a collection point for links to these plans.
By far the largest collection point that I know of for bike cargo trailer plans is at Instructables.com (the link goes to a search for bike cargo trailers). While these plans will vary in quality, this is a great starting point.
The bike trailer section of our blog, contains many user submitted photos of DIY bike trailer projects.
The bike trailer manufacturer Carry Freedom offers up plans for a bamboo trailer that I suspect would do well made out of other materials as well. They do ask that you email them for the plans.
Quite a few BikeTrailerShop.com customers utilize our extensive collection of replacement parts for the various brands of trailers that we represent and support as parts for their own DIY trailer projects. Bike trailer hitches made by the likes of Chariot, Burley and Croozer are commonly adapted for this use as they are relatively affordable and difficult to replicate in a DIY project. We have a lenghty blog post to the topic of using these parts with quite a few warnings, safety and liability clauses mentioned as well.
